[centers of attraction]

One of the things i look forward to seeing when i attend weddings is the reception venue. The total look of the area can really make a difference especially if the styling/arrangement of the table centerpieces are well thought-out.  Here are some ideas from marthastewartweddings.com which i like/love:

orchids, coffee beans floating candles & moss
 in long mahogany  boxes

manzanita branches with wrapped vases of
roses, cotton, tulips & ranunculus

oversized helium ballons tied to cloth-wrapped  rocks
alternating with  bowls filled with moss

rose & poppy flowers in an origami-covered can

ranunculus with votive candles arranged on top of a mirror

mini phalaenopsis in fabric-wrapped pots

floral bunches in cones

a mixture of curled sago palm leaves, roses, ranunculus

tall arrangement of soaring bells of ireland,
branches & tulips

lush fresh blossoms in a variety of blue vases

flowers in tall vases with bangle accents

fresh flowers in a jar wrapped in white paper bag

fruits & blossoms in low square wooden boxes

loose red blooms in colorful tea canisters

red carnations in porcelain container with red bow

bunches of burgundy & purple dahlias, artichokes, orange tulips,
calla lilies, ranunculus, orchids in silver vases

lone stem blooms arranged  in vessels of various heights

burgundy cymbidium orchids with sugar maple leaves

tree branches decorated with orange orchids & candles

a small centerpiece of orange hued flowers
with blackberries &  green foliages
white bowls & platters of different citrus fruits
with lemon leaves & floral accents
like white gardenias, orchids

[the moment just passes you by]

with HEARTS' DAY barely 2 weeks away, stories on true loves, lost loves or loves never-meant-to-be come to mind. with that, i'm reminded of a heart-wrenching scene from my all-time favorite romantic flick, MY BESTFRIEND'S WEDDING.

this movie-moment tells of how michael & julianne came to terms with their true feelings for each other but present circumstances forced them to accept their not-so-happily-ever-after ending.

look at how sad julianne felt at the reception when she finally let go of her "bestfriend who has won the best woman".

a lesson in love: be the best of friends but stay upfront with your romantic feelings if you ever come to that point in your lives. take the risk but be ready to accept things in the face of rejection rather than let the ONE get away.

[be an EARTHIAN]

can our forests go back to being this GREEN?

via EARTHIAN's fb account

i believe we still can with SUSTAINABILITY. i found this INDIA-based FB group, EARTHIAN while i was looking at my news feed. this group also has a blog & an official website

as posted in their blog profile, EARTHIAN SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAM FOR SCHOOLS OR COLLEGES (EARTHIAN for short) is designed to act as a catalyst for fostering excellence in sustainability thinking & doing amongst young people. They believe that holding annual awards is a first step towards garnering a deeper engagement with children & young adults in schools & colleges.

another namesake, EARTHIAN magazine, this time homegrown, is also in FB, has a blog & with links to GREEN AGENDA PHILIPPINES NOW & GREEN PEACE PHILIPPINES, among others.

explore both groups through their FB pages, blogs or sites & get to know what it takes to help our environment go back to being GREEN again.

[DESIGN PEG series: SUNBURST MIRRORS]

this wall above the console table in our living area has been bare for 3 years now.

i have always wanted to hang a sunburst mirror in here & achieve these looks:

any of these might work:

what do you think?

a little trivia: the sunburst design traces its roots to KING LOUIS XIV (17th century) who chose the sun as his emblem because he got fascinated with his role as the SUN in the theatrical production BALLET DELA NUIT.
